Out of State vs. Illeagal in State

I know, I know; it’s been awhile, but here I am. So much is going on around our nation, it’s all over the news. Where do I start? Well there’s the Casey Anthony verdict from Florida, sad that a little girl has lost her life. I’m sure someone will be held accountable sooner or later. This is all over the news and talk shows. What about the NFL Lockout? Multi-millionaires who want a larger cut of the “pie” of the multi-billionaire owners. Hey, there’s a movement by a Southern California County Supervisor, who wants to start talks with other Counties to secede from the State of California. They want to form a new state called “South California”, perhaps worth some thought. Wait I know, the Royal Visit. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were here in L.A. The news media followed their motorcade wherever they went.

On a more serious note, folks, there is quite a bit of info that is not being plastered over the airwaves. The Federal budget mess will get worse. I saw President Obama on TV today chastising and taunting Republican Leaders to “eat our peas” and “let’s go.” This topic alone could cover several newsletters but I want to speak about something that has gone down that deserves some attention.

Recently, the US Supreme Court declined to hear a challenge to a California law that allows illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition at the state’s Universities and Colleges. The plaintiffs were students and parents from 19 states who attended or have attended California Universities/Colleges and been required to pay the higher out-of-state tuition. They challenged a 2001 state law, AB540. It specifies that any student, regardless of immigration status, who attends a California high school for at least 3 years and graduates is entitled to in-state tuition fees. The plaintiffs contended that the law improperly circumvents a 1986 Federal law meant to deny such a benefit to illegal immigrants. AB540 essentially grants illegal aliens – which even California concedes cannot live or work lawfully in the state – one of the most lucrative benefits in the country.

Out-of-state students at UC campuses pay more that $22,000 a year more in tuition than that of their in-state counterparts. In CSU campuses, a full-time student from outside the state pays about $11,000 more per year than that of the in-state student. At Community Colleges, fees for full-time in-state students will be $1,080 annually, in contrast to $5, 400 for an out-of-state student. To me, this just seems so wrong. I don’t know, maybe I’m missing something. The State of California is BROKE! Their (politicians) thought process is like the Federal Government; let’s just tax the hell out of the citizens to close the gap in the deficit. But to those who are illegal, well, they get an entitlement. Citizens of this country, if you aren’t from California, you get hosed. But wait, its not just California. There are 19 other states that have similar laws in place, and guess what folks, the Universities and Colleges support these laws to charge the lower tuition to illegal immigrants.

Someone out there help me out. I’m having trouble wrapping my head around this. Someone explain to me how this is allowed to happen? Illegal immigrants aren’t supposed to be here at all, yet they get lower tuition bills. US citizens, who are out-of-state students, get the higher tuition bill. I think at least be fair about this. Charge illegal immigrants the out-of-state rate. This can close the deficit gap in California pretty quick. I’m serious though; if anyone knows anything about this issue, please let us know. I also want to hear your opinions about this. My newsletter question for you is this: How do you feel about illegal immigrants being charged in-state tuition fees, while US citizens, who are not residents of California, get charged 2-3 times more?

Now, don’t worry folks, there will be more information soon in the mainstream media regarding the budget deadline. I hope House Republicans hold their positions. And for all who care, more info on the Royal couple and what they are up to; what they ate for breakfast and so on, and so on.
