Mainstream Media Assisting the Enemy

“The Marines were wrong…as for everyone else, unless you have been shot at by the Taliban, shut your mouth, war is hell” – Rep. Allen West (R-Fla)

Hello all,
Powerful words spoken by Rep. Allen West, who also is a former Army Lieutenant Colonel. In an email to the Weekly Standard, West goes on to talk about the double standards that exist in the mainstream media that we all know exists. I must say that for the most part, I agree with what Allen West said, war is hell. Bad things happen in combat. Most of the folks who have not served in the military cannot imagine the horrors seen by our service members that have been deployed to a combat zone. I’m not talking about the Hollywood version either. These Marines are trained warriors and at 18-22 years old, they used poor judgment.
After speaking with several people though, I want to ask everyone this question. What is it about this video that upsets people? I’ve heard some in the media say how ashamed they are of the Military and how we have insulted the Taliban. What? I don’t give a rat’s ass about insulting the Taliban, but the media is alluding to this at times when they air a report about the video. I believe the media spreads and enables this faux outrage. Now, if your argument were about the Marines violating articles of the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice) and just using poor judgment, then you would get no argument from me. Don’t get offended just because some politicians say a few comments on TV about “this is not what we are about” or how “sickened” they were when they saw the video. I was not there; you were not there, let’s stop passing judgment so quickly regarding this video. These Marines and soldiers are under extreme stress. One minute your talking to your buddy, the next minute you look over and half his head is missing. I think we should cut them some slack. Many of the ones who are ashamed of our military because of this video have no concept of what combat is truly like. I’ve also heard from some of those who say, “many more Soldiers/Marines will die because of this video, it emboldens the enemy”. I say the mainstream media is assisting the enemy with this one. The enemy sees the “outrage” of U.S citizens on TV and they probably dance around thinking “the media is doing the job for us. Look at their reaction over this”. Folks, you just have to understand the mindset of these radical Muslims. To them, seeing this reaction from U.S citizen’s shows that we are weak and trust me, they will continue to try to exploit this weakness.
These Marines were wrong. Once the investigation is over, I’m sure there will be discipline handed out. It’s probably safe to say their careers are over but let's not try them in the court of public opinion. If deemed necessary, there will be a court martial convened. U.S service members in uniform have rules & laws that they must operate under, even in the hell of war. “War is hell” is nice for a bumper sticker, but it shouldn’t guide our moral compass. We, as a Country are better than this but I do understand these Marines frustration of not being able to do http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifwhat they are trained to do because of politics.
Maybe these Marines should been filmed kissing each other because now, that’s ok. And we wouldn’t have heard one world about it. I’m just saying…
